How We Care For The Environment ...

A Safe Haven For Nature

We believe in giving back to nature by protecting our environment and utilizing sustainable practices. Our orchard is free from any pesticides, so you can feel safe while enjoying our delicious fruits and herbs. We also provide a pollinator habitat, so our bees and other pollinators can thrive here!

Care For The Waste We Produce

Did you know that only 9% of plastics produced in the world is recycled? Most of our plastic goes into landfills and is broken down into smaller pieces. Those smaller plastics contaminate our soil and water, working their way into the human food chain.

We know the importance of responsible use of resources - that's why we use composable and reusable products for our drinks. We also strive to reduce our plastic waste by avoiding single-use plastic packaging whenever possible.

Sustainable Practices And Eco-Friendly

We don't use any harsh chemicals or pesticides but use biodiversity to keep the bugs away. So rest assured that your visit will be eco-friendly and safe!

A Pumpkin Patch That's Different

Our pumpkin patch looks a little different than the others because it's been grown using regenerative farming practices. You won't find any artificial fertilizers or harmful chemicals here — just natural methods that ensure high quality pumpkins!

Meet Our Family

Three Generations Of Land Stewardship

Meet Julie

Julie grew up in Fargo, North Dakota, and was in high school when her parents, Jonna and Gary, purchased Maple Hills Orchard in 1999. From planting the first trees to working the land, she’s been involved in the orchard’s journey from the very beginning. In 2020, she and her husband Jon decided to continue her family’s legacy and take the orchard into its next chapter. Julie loves welcoming visitors and sharing the orchard’s beauty with their two boys, Abe and Theo, who now roam the same rows of trees she helped plant years ago.

Meet Jon

Jon grew up in Owatonna, Minnesota, and owns a marketing company in the Twin Cities. Though he never imagined himself running an orchard, that all changed in 2020 when Jonna and Gary began talking about retirement. Jon and his wife Julie decided to step in and carry Maple Hills Orchard into the next generation. It’s been a huge learning experience, and they love every minute of it. If you visit the orchard, you might spot their two boys, Abe and Theo, happily running around among the trees.

Meet Gary

Growing up in South Dakota, Gary was born into a family of farmers which has shaped him to be the driven individual he is today. After retiring from his post as an environmental sociology professor at NDSU, Gary still maintains his unstoppable spirit and ambition for farming.

Meet Jonna

Jonna grew up in South Korea where her family has a special connection to apples, as her ancestors were among the first to bring them to South Korea. As an adult, Jonna has become an incredibly compassionate and nurturing person with deep respect for nature.
