Honeycrisp is a crisp and juicy sweet eating apple. It may be used for desserts and salads. Honeycrisp is a red mottled apple over a yellow background. It ripens in late September and has excellent storage qualities. It was introduced by the University of Minnesota in 1991 after 30 years of development. Honeycrisp is the pride of Minnesota. Haralson is a tart medium-sized eating apple. It is an excellent pie apple as the apple slice holds its shape and texture. Haralson apples may also be used for sauces, baking, cider, jelly, and freezing. It ripens in early October and stores well. Haralson was introduced by the University of Minnesota more than 80 years ago and is still a Minnesota favorite. Haralred is a redder and earlier apple than the standard Haralson, yet retains all the good qualities of Haralson. Harvest for the Haralred begins at the end of September into October. Stella Minnesota(TM)
Stella Minnesota is a good eating apple with a white, dense flesh unusual for an early season apple. It may be used in salads, sauces, pies or desserts. The resistance to browning adds shelf life to cut apples. Stella Minnesota was patented in 2003 by Bill Cox of Cleveland, Minnesota. It can thrive under demanding weather conditions and is on trial for hardiness at Maple Hills Orchard. Planted in 2003
Chestnut crab is a sweet, good-tasting crabapple that is red-yellow and russeted. It is a mid-season variety. The Chestnut Crab is good for eating, juicing, and jellies. Planted in 2006
Hyslop Crab
Hyslop Crab is an older variety, mid-to-late season crabapple with dark red skin and yellow flesh. It is good for eating and sauce. Planted in 2006
SweeTango (TM) or MN 1914
SweeTango(TM) is a crisp stunningly good, red apple with a complete, sweet flavor. It is an excellent eating apple and it stores well. This Minnesota variety ripens in early September. In 1988, Honeycrisp and Zestar, two excellent varieties were crossed by the University of Minnesota resulting in the MN 1914. SweeTango(TM) was released to select orchards in 2007!!! Planted in 2007
Wolf River
Wolf River is an older apple variety (1875) from Wisconsin. It is a spectacularly large apple which can weigh up to 1 pound. Wolf River is an outstanding culinary apple and is good blended in cider as well. It has a pale yellow skin covered in dull red. The apples flesh is tender, subacid-tart, and juicy. Wolf River ripens in late September to mid October. Planted in 2007 Honeygold Honeygold is a cross between Golden Delicious for color and flavor, and Haralson for hardiness. It is a golden yellow apple with a red blush. It keeps well and ripens in October. Planted in 2008 SnowSweet(TM) SnowSweet is a sweet apple with a slightly tart flavor. The flesh is firm and slow to oxidize when cut, making it ideal for salads, sauce, or fruit platers. The SnowSweet has a bronze-red blush over a green-yellow backgound.
